Does your 2017 content marketing strategy include email marketing?

Give your emails superhuman abilities to convert by planning now to make them more effective.

If you are looking for more information on how to increase click-through rates, keep reading for 5 proven tips.

1. Spruce up the CTA

Just like Batman’s power came from his tech and brains, the power of your email comes from your call to action. Here are some ways you can tweak your CTA to make it gather more conversions:

  • Use strong action verbs like “download” or “watch” rather than “click” or “try.”
  • Create urgency with words like “today only” or “now,” or an offer that is a limited-time offer.
  • Keep it simple and short and ensure it’s easy for the reader to complete the action.
  • Show the benefit with words like “get” instead of controlling words like “order.”

An effective CTA creates more conversions by creating a need and desire in the reader to click and follow through to complete the action, so spend a little time making that CTA super-human.

2. Get Personal

Do you use your clients’ names in your email? Are you addressing them by name in the subject line and throughout the content?

One study showed that doing so delivers 6 times higher transaction rates, with a 29 percent higher unique open rate and a 41 percent higher unique click rate.

If you’re wanting to increase your click-through rate, this is one easy way to do so. Interestingly, the same study found that in spite of the clear effectiveness of using names, only about 30 percent of brands do so.

3. Minimize and Declutter

How much info are you throwing at your readers in the email? If the email message is trying to say too much or has a cluttered look, you are going to struggle with conversion rates. People who are confused or distracted won’t convert.

To do this, make one clear goal or message for your email.

Then, add the link in the CTA that makes it easy for users to find the link and click on it. Then, if you want social media buttons, add them at the bottom.

This simple approach will help more people find and click on the link, improving your conversion rate.

4. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

If you can do so without cluttering the email, put the link in multiple times throughout the email.

This will give readers multiple opportunities to click. Including your link to the landing page, registration page or sales page at least twice will increase the chances that someone who is simply skimming the content and not actually reading it will click through.

Consider adding the link early in the email and then again towards the end for those who read all the way through.

5. Add Video

Give your email a superpower by adding video! In 2015, nearly three-quarters of B2B marketers surveyed by Demand Metric reported that video converted better than other content types.

Cisco predicts that 80 percent of all Internet traffic will be dedicated to streaming video content by 2019. Video marketing is highly effective, and when embedded in an email it can help increase click through rates.

People don’t expect to see video in their email inbox, so this creates novelty.
